What is a bypass code?
A bypass code is a temporary code that can be issued to a customer to authenticate with Duo when the customer does not have their registered device.
The bypass code the Service Desk will generate will always be a randomly generated 9 digit code that is valid for *X amount of time, and has unlimited uses.
If a customer requests a bypass code that needs to be longer than 10 hours, the request has to go to the Information Security Queue.
The length of time depends on the need of the customer and must be approved by an IT Service Desk Staff/Supervisor. 1 day will see a 1440 minute entry when creating the code. 5 days, 7200 minutes. For fob-related bypass codes, 14 days, or 20160 minutes will be entered.
Sign in using a Bypass Code
Follow these steps if you have ALREADY recieved a Bypass code from a Service Desk representative.
Sign in to the SSO or portal from any SJSU application using your SJSU credentials. | Click Verify | Select Other options instead of authenticating | Select Bypass code | Enter the 9 digit code you recieved from the Help Desk representitive. |

Issue a bypass code
Once the identity has been verified, create a ticket for this and issue a bypass code by following the steps below.
COVID19 -BYPASS CODES
During Shelter-In-Place Set Usage to 'Unlimited' and expiration to '10080' minutes (7 days).
Sign into Duo Admin
Pull up their account using full name, SJSU email address or SJSU id number
Scroll down to Bypass Codes
Click Add Bypass Code
Click Change Options

Click Generate Bypass Code to generate
Under Bypass Codes, to see the bypass code click Show This will display the bypass code
Be sure to provide the full Bypass code and the expiration information.
