School-wide Events
Last Modified: Apr 24, 2023
Overview
Spartan Connect can globally define specific blackout dates for all users. This feature reduces the need for individuals to maintain their own synced holiday calendar or use the shared University Holiday Calendar.
School-wide events shows an all-day busy event on every user’s calendar. Students are blocked from scheduling on these days and virtual check-in is also unavailable.
Individuals are still responsible for maintaining their own calendars and personal busy days, just as they've done in the past.
What Do I Have to Do?
Nothing, with respect to the old University Holiday Calendar being replaced by this new School-wide Events functionality.
These changes are handled administratively in the background and there is no action you need to take.
Important Points
School-wide events will only be created for official university holidays (when campus is closed), based on the UP Holiday Calendar. Faculty advisors should note this does not include spring break.
All school-wide events block out student self-service scheduling.
Staff users can still override school-wide events using the staff scheduler or appointment center (just as before with regular busy times).
School-wide events are not optional for anyone. All users see School-wide events on their calendar; there is no other option.
Existing appointments (i.e. scheduled before a school-wide event is created) are not affected.
Example
Previous University Holiday Shared Calendar
This shared Google calendar will be disabled and will automatically disappear from your own Google Calendar page and Spartan Connect calendar sync.
