V3 and V2 Reports
Last Modified: May 29, 2024
Overview
Spartan Connect provides pre-defined reports that allow users to search for data based on student information criteria, interaction details, or other student record elements. These reports have standardized fields and allow a limited amount of customization.
Over time, the reports have evolved and the most recent versions available differ in search capability and data output.
V2 Reports (Phasing Out)
These are the second major iteration of reporting capability in Spartan Connect and use a static set of Activity and Student filters for each report. These filters are all displayed to the user and the use may fill out any filter combinations to produce a report.
While having all filters immediately accessible, it’s limiting for users that want to perform more complex searches or find data that matches against more than one single field value.
V3 Reports (New)
V3 reports aims to solve many of the search issues present in V2 reports by streamlining the creation of search filter criteria and implementing conditional logic.
Users are able to choose only the specific fields they need to filter the report as they desire and are able to use more complex logic to filter in more ways than previously possible with V2 reports.
Users must specify some filters in order to run the report, and there are no default filter fields populated. This may cause some initial confusion for users.
Phasing Out V2 Reports
Access to V2 reports will eventually be turned off and will need to rely on V3 reports to pull data. Users should expect to lose access to V2 reports some time at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
To prepare for this eventuality, users should become familiar with V3 reports and treat them as the default reporting method from now on. Any reports that were previously available in V2 should be replicable in V3.
If you cannot replicate a V2 report using V3 search filters, please reach out to SpartanConnect@sjsu.edu for assistance.
Using V3 Reports
EAB has produced a “Started Pack” for V3 reports. Use this to get a basic understanding of some example filters for certain reports.
Note that you may not have access to all reports specified in this example.
